Before arriving to Barcelona, I didn’t really know what to expect. Unlike many cities I’ve visited before, I usually have some form of ‘list’ filled with things I would like to do or places I’d like to see. But when it came to Barcelona I decided to just go with the wind.

And without any pre-concieved notions about the city I was able to take in Barcelona as purely as I’d hope. Within the first hour I realized the beauty within Barcelona was floating within the atmosphere. It was lively, beautiful and ready to be explored.

1. Bike ride through the city

This was my most favorite thing I did during my four day stay in Barcelona. It was two hours of guided biking through the city and along the beach area. The breezy ride introduced me to the city in a super fun way. I went through Green Bikes, they were professional and made sure everyone stayed safe.

      2. Sun bathe at the beach

This was one of the things I wish I would have done longer. But since it was my first time in Barcelona I tried to do as much sightseeing as possible. This is the perfect way to spend a relaxing day and give you a break from all the packed tourists spots. Also, be prepared to see tons of topless women and men wearing teenie tiny swimming trunks.

     3. Ride the cable cars on top of Montjuic

If views are your thing make sure to ride the cable cars and enjoy a bird’s eye view of Barcelona.

 

      4. Take a cooking class and learn how to make Paella

This is a fun and interactive way of enjoying a different culture in a new way.

 

      5. Picnic at Parc de la Ciutaduella

By far one of the most lively and spirited parks I have ever been to. Bike, walk or picnic here, either way you’ll enjoy it. Also, the Barcelona Zoo is located here; making it a great stop if you’re on a family vacation.

 

      6.Get a closer look of the architecture at La Sagrada

If you notice- architecture is still underway here. They are currently planning to make the church a lot bigger. Each side of the building tells a different story of Christ, from his birth to his death; this is a main tourist attraction.

 

     7. Shop for souvenirs at La Rambla

La Rambla is the most popular shopping destination for tourists. You’ll find a line of restaurants, and souvenir stands.

    8.  Eat Tapas and try ‘real’ Sangria

Tapas are a Spanish tradition, they are meant to be had in a social setting where alcohol is being consumed. But even if you’re not a drinker, try them, they are delicious. And as for the Sangria, it is extremely popular to drink here. And no it is not the same as Mexican Sangria.

   9. Find out why Park Guell is so interesting

Go here for the architecture, and make sure to sit on the bench overlooking the city it is super comfortable.

 

  10. Take a tour of the FC Barcelona arena

Most people might think this is just an excursion for sports fans. It’s not, it’s more than that, it’s a part of their culture and one of the most popular recurring themes you’ll see in Barcelona. There is a museum inside and surprisingly even a tiny church.

 

 11. Marvel at the collection of boats in Port Veil

 

12.Go out to themed bars, or party at one of the more popular nightclubs

I am not necessarily a party person but Barcelona is a party city. One of the most shocking things for me about their party hours, is that most clubs don’t actually begin until past midnight versus in he U.S where clubs tend to end at about 2am. How people get up for work the next day? Who knows.

Some of the popular nightclubs were Razzmatazz and Opium. There are also many types of bars in the city; if you can’t decide on one; join a pub crawl.

13. Go to a museum

You can find many in here including Museu Picasso, Colum-Museu Maritime and Museo D’Historia de Catalunya.

14. Watersports in Barcelona

Barcelona is one of those perfect summer getaway destinations because it offers many opportunities for some water thrills. In this one photo below you can spot people kayaking, a person paddle boarding and others on a sailboat.

16. Font Magica de Montjuic

This fountain highlights he vibrant aspects and culture of Barcelona, an un-skippable attraction.

17. Get lost and explore

I feel that this is one of the best ways not only to explore Barcelona but pretty much any other new city you’re in. You just never know what may be around the corner.
