Travel Instagram accounts are some of the most beautiful accounts on the app. However, these can easily be done wrong or be done great.
Below are some tips I have garnered over the years of being an active “instagrammer”. Some are from observing other accounts, my own experiences and from speaking to social media experts.

What does this mean?
One of the reasons people choose to follow someone’s account is because they clearly like the “style” and “topic” of the posts. For example, if you are choosing to have a travel account, it should be all travel images. And this goes even further, what kind of travel photos? Will you only be shooting mountains, people, animals, etc?
Ask yourself, what is your focus?

2. PICTURE EDITING – STOP USING FILTERS
Learn to edit your pictures on either a professional software or via Instagram’s tools editor. The point here is to develop a style, surely not every photo can be edited the same but having a similar approach to your editing will make your page look unison and better.
The reason I say to stop using IG’s filters is because it can make your photos look “less attractive.”
I discovered this, after reading a few articles on the web that mentioned, the eye doesn’t attract images with filters when scrolling through multiple images. According to researchers, people selected to view pictures without filters.
And so after reading this, I stopped using filters. Instead, I chose to focus to brightness and shadows. And with these two simple tools, I have been able to transform my photos, easily.

3. RESEARCH HASHTAGS- ATTRACT AN AUDIENCE
Obviously hashtags help people find your photos. But the question you want to ask yourself is “What people would be interested in these photos?”
I post a lot of landscape and building shots. I also do a lot of solo traveling. So when it came to posting pics, I first did my research.
I knew I was going to be posting pictures about Ireland, Paris, London and Barcelona. So, I went on Instagram and looked at other popular profiles and pictures and used the same hashtags. Instagram also has a cool feature, where you can search similar photos using different hashtags and so I wrote all those down and used them when posting my photos.
How did this help? For one, it helped with likes. Two, it helped people with similar interests find my account and follow. My follower count definitely rose with this method and lastly it helped me get featured on larger accounts.
4. FACEBOOK GROUPS
There are quite a few Facebook Groups out there that can help you gain likes and followers. It’s a nice way to start building a steady foundation for your account. Here are some that may help.
1. Instagram Fabulous– note this is a good way to get likes and followers, but note that most won’t be the audience you may be hoping for. And you also have to put your part in to. In terms of following back others who may not fall into your niche and liking their pictures as well. But if you have the time, I say go for it!
2. Female Travel Bloggers – Yes, you do need to be a female travel blogger to join! They will check!
5. Bloggers Supporting Bloggers – Yes, you do need to be a blogger!
There are a lot more out there, all you need to do is look. This also a good way to build connections and meet others that are trying to do the same thing.
5. BE ACTIVE, AND ENGAGE!
Try to post everyday or have some sort of routine of schedule. This is something I need to work on with my travel account but I can tell you that being active on my personal account (non travel curated) has definitely helped.
And lastly DON’T FORGET TO ENGAGE WITH YOUR AUDIENCE.
